Sarah Lavinia Todd @ Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery
The mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery was designed by Favrot & Livaudais, one of the leading architecturla firms @ the end of the 19th century and the early decade of the 20th century. Sara Lavinia Todd Hyams, wife of Chapman Hyams, died in New York in Sept. 1914 of undisclosed causes. The original "Angel of Grief" was carved in 1894 by William Wetmore Story (1819-1895) and serves as a headstone for him and his wife, Emelyn, in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome. There are more than 10 replicas in America as well as one in Wales and another in Costa Rica. A replica can be found in the mausoleum commissioned by Hyams in Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans.
